Nevada unemployment rate continues to fall

LAS VEGAS – September unemployment figures were released by the state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation last week. The jobless rate fell to a seven-year low, down 0.6 percent from September 2014 and the lowest realized since July 2008.

Unemployed Nevadans numbered below 96,000 with employers adding 34,600 jobs in September, a growth of 2.8 percent compared with the previous year. September was the 57th straight month of year-over-year job gains in the state.

Construction posted the strongest growth with 5,700 more jobs, or 8.8 percent growth, to a total of 72,000 jobs in the industry statewide. Leisure and hospitality grew 5.3 percent, by 18,000 jobs in September.

The work force grew last month, up 33,900 job seekers to 1.43 million statewide.
